Yes, I believe that God's Word is the Truth. We are not at odds with that. What we have trouble with is saying that Scripture alone is the only source of the Truth.

What is the trouble is claiming Catholic History and Tradition hold the same truth as the Word of God.

Catholic history is not considered binding or infallible. We believe that the Word of God is made up of three parts:
1. Sacred Scripture
2. Sacred Tradition
3. The teaching authority of the Church.

One cannot forget that the term "Word of God" principally refers to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Again, no Church, Catholic or Protestant can save you, only Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ said to follow Him. Which means to follow Jesus and not follow a Church, neither Catholic, Protestant or any other.

Ah, but there's a problem.

In order to follow Christ, one must hold to the original Gospel (Galatians 1:9) or else!

If a church does not hold to the original Gospel, then it cannot save. Period.
JW's and Mormons come to mind, as well as sects that were creating a new gospel from the 16th century.

If a church does hold to the original Gospel, then you are saying with your membership, that I agree with the original Gospel and hold to the original Gospel. If one holds to the original Gospel and does not want to affiliate themselves with fellow Christians who also hold to the original Gospel - that's uncharitable! We're not lone rangers here!

I like to ask those who challenge my faith: How did the Apostles interpret those verses? Many don't have that answer because they reject Sacred Tradition - which includes the Apostolic Interpretation of Scripture.

If someone says they're guided by the Holy Spirit when interpreting scripture, I say: Unless you wish me to have blind faith in your claim, you must show me where the Apostles interpreted in an identical manner.

I like looking at the fact that Artificial Birth Control was considered a sin by all of Christendom up to 1930 - now THAT proves this doctrine was of the Holy Spirit when ALL Christians agreed on something for over 19 centuries! Churches which reject this teaching are obviously not holding to the Apostolic doctrine and thus should be rejected.

Now, back to Church membership. If this Church holds to the original Gospel - it must be the Body of Christ for only the Body of Christ holds to the original Gospel. And who says the Body of Christ does not save? That opinion empties the Cross of all its meaning for the Body of Christ was on it!

If you somehow manage to convince me that the Body of Christ does not save, then I would ask you to show me the address of the nearest orthodox Synagogue, for Jesus' teachings would be then just another Rabbinic opinion.

Jesus Christ is not a divorced man.

Jesus Christ is not a single man.

Jesus Christ the Bridegroom clings to his bride, is ONE with his bride, and I want him to cling to me and be one with me! So I'll join his Bride and stay there, thank you very much!
